Cards are pickups with a wide variety of effects when used. They take up the same slot as pills, runes and objects when picked up. Their effects can be mimicked by using Blank Card.png Blank Card.

Fiend Folio adds 60 new cards of various kinds, either based on tarot cards, playing cards, Pokémon cards or other card games!

Minor Arcana Cards

The Minor Arcana are a set of cards based on the the cartomantic tarot decks.

Playing Cards are generally based on suit cards — in The Binding of Isaac, most of them are centered around the 4 major consumables and their variants: Hearts, Coins, Keys, and Bombs.

Magic: The Gathering Cards are cards based on the Magic: The Gathering trading card game.

  • Summons a friendly Fiend Folio enemy from a set.
  • Enemy can be "Common", "Rare", "Epic" or "Legendary" rarity.
    • (Higher rarity enemies are typically stronger than lower rarities.)
  • There's a small chance for the summoned monster to be a "shiny" variant.
    • This is indicated by spark particles appearing around the monster and a unique sound effect when it is summoned.
    • Chance for a monster to be shiny is independent on its rarity.

  • Dropping it will have a Snagger.png Snagger spawn from off-screen that will attempt to steal the Small Contraband and fly away with it.

Unlock Conditions

Trivia

  • +3 Fireballs was the first and only card to exist in the Afterbirth+ version of the MOD.
  • Download Failure's sprite is a reference to missing image placeholder icons used on older web browsers, which was used in place of images that could not load properly.
    • One of Download Failure's voiceovers, "Why are all my enemies sliding around?" alludes to a commonly reported glitch in the game by players who have not installed mods such as Fiend Folio correctly, hence Download Failure's name and effect.
  • The number "666" in Calling Card's description is the number of the Beast in the Bible, while "S8N" simply alludes to "Satan".
  • The friendly Psi Hunter.png Psi Hunter spawned by Calling Card has green eyes instead of red.
  • 13 of Stars is, in fact, not a real playing card, instead being a reference to page 6141 of Homestuck.
    • This also ties in with the fact that 13 of Stars can spawn Perfectly Generic Object Perfectly Generic Object, another item that is a reference to Homestuck.
  • Gift Card was one of the last features added in the Reheated update. Its flavor text "Let's wrap things up" was made as a double-meaning because of this.
  • Many of the miscellaneous cards are references to various card games, board games, and series:
  • Three of Wands, King of Spades, King of Swords and 2 of Cups were all added in V2.4.
  • Misprinted Two of Clubs was added in V2.5.
  • The King of Clubs? card's flavor text and effect are a reference to a scene in Half-Life, where a panicking scientist screams "Oh my God, we're doomed!" and runs into a laser trip mine, resulting in his explosive death.
